Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, a much cheaper small model with large computer-use gains
Anthropic calls Claude Haiku 5.5 its cheapest, fastest and most capable small model. It is aimed at high-volume work such as summaries, customer support, browser use and subagent tasks, and Anthropic says it costs about 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5. It scored 72.4% on the OSWorld 2.1 computer-use benchmark, against 15.7% for Haiku 4.5. Anthropic says it showed far fewer misaligned behaviors and less willingness to cooperate with misuse than Haiku 4.5. Its cyber safeguards are stricter than Haiku 4.5's but looser than those on other recent Anthropic models, and they still block penetration testing.
Why it matters
A cheap, fast model that operates a computer far better than its predecessor is likely to run in many more unattended agent loops, such as browser use and subagent roles, where few people review each step. Anthropic reports better alignment results but deliberately looser cyber safeguards than on its larger models. The alignment claims come from the developer's own tests, and the system card with the details was not among the sources.
