Google released Gemini 4 Argon, a new frontier model it says outperforms rivals

Argon reaches developers through the paid Gemini API and consumers only on Google's Pro and Ultra plans, with its Antigravity coding tool limited to Ultra. Google says it ranks first on the Vals Index of finance, coding, legal and tax work. Ars Technica reports Google revealed the model weeks earlier and held back a full release over misuse concerns. Cyber defenders in the Fairwind program can apply for a version without cyber guardrails.

Why it matters

Google says it trained Argon to respect system boundaries and pause before irreversible steps, and runs a monitor that reads its reasoning to block unauthorized workarounds, yet still measured shortcut attempts at 2% on coding tests. Opening a version without cyber guardrails to cyber defenders who join the Fairwind program widens access to its skill at finding vulnerabilities. The safety figures are Google's own.
