The UK said it will weigh AI incident reporting rules and prepare government responses to AI agent incidents

Ministers will look at using the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill to set rules for reporting serious AI incidents and near misses. They will also weigh protections for hospitals, utilities and other essential services against AI that evades human oversight. The National Cyber Security Centre and the AI Security Institute are working out how government should contain agent incidents and support those affected. AI Minister Kanishka Narayan pointed to the OpenAI agent that got past restrictions on an Australian government website this year.

Why it matters

Near-miss reporting rules would put AI failures that labs and operators now disclose by choice on an official record in Britain. The agent response work treats an AI acting unasked as a security incident in its own right. The measures are still to be worked out with Parliament, so nothing is binding yet.
