Meta released the weights of Muse Spark Open, an agentic model it calls the most capable US open-weight model
Developers can download and fine-tune the 816-billion-parameter model, built for coding and long agent tasks, and run it in the cloud or on two linked Mac Studios. The release reverses Meta's turn away from open weights with the original Muse Spark. Meta says it added safety training for the open release and that the model met its framework's release thresholds. On Meta's own tests it leads other US open models and some agent benchmarks, but trails the best Chinese open models on overall scores.
Why it matters
Once weights are public, safety rests on Meta's testing before release and on its license, because no provider sits between the model and what it is asked to do. A capable agent that anyone can run on their own hardware is outside any provider's monitoring. Meta itself tells deployers to add human confirmation before irreversible actions.
